Seismology

The Volcano Seismology working group was founded in August 2023 and is led by Junior Professor Dr Miriam Christina Reiss.

Seismology is the science of passive measurement methods for exploring the Earth's subsurface using seismic waves. These are recorded on seismometers and can be analyzed using various methods. For example, it is possible to localize earthquakes, determine the thickness of the Earth's crust, analyze the deformation of mantle and crustal rocks, resolve the structure of magma chambers, and toobserve volcanic eruptions.
