Investigation of calcifying dinoflagellate derived organic matrix
Topic of research is the proteomic analysis of dinoflagellates, investigating the enzymatic process of calcification in calcareous dinoflagellates such as Leonella granifera. This includes the identification of proteins, polysaccharides and lipids as well as their post-translational modifications. Here, protein sequencing provides information for matching with protein databases, while in vitro experiments are conducted to determine their physiological role. Another field of expertise is the investigation of purines, accumulated by various marine microalgae using HPLC, IR and Raman spectroscopy. Here, a special focus lays on guanine crystal formation correlated to intentional light manipulation by the organism.
